  1. I think we have to remember that men back in the day usually got married young, so masturbation, fornication of the heart etc was less of an issue. Whist I understand and am aware that lustful thoughts corrupt the soul, I think it's not good to keep it in either, and indeed it may be bad for your reproductive system and genitals to not masturbate regularly. I would imagine that refraining completely if you are 30+ could lead to erectile dysfunction. The biggest issue seems to be images of lust either real or imagined to stimulate, rather than the physical stimulation with no images at all. So does the issue lie specifically with images of a person you aren't attached to, or even images that aren't of anyone in particular? I think it's an issue that needs to be discussed more openly for those unable to meet partners.

  2. Does Romans chapter 7 describe the Christian struggle against sin, or does it describe the struggle of someone trying to be righteous under the Law, without the help of Christ?
    Romans 7: slave of sin:
"For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold under sin."

    Not empowered by The Spirit:
"I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out."

Not set free in Christ from the law of sin and death:
"captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members."

    Not yet saved by Christ:
"Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?"

These are all problems of the fallen nature (not in Christ) that being in Christ saves us from:
"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has *set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death*."
"You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him."
"For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God."
"For *sin will have no dominion over you*, since you are not under law but under grace."
"But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been *set free from sin*, have become slaves of righteousness."

"But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life."

"But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh."

  3. It's Adam..and the man in Adam..not an individual but the best without the Spirit but under the law. The key is Paul never mentions the Spirit.. I seriously doubt MacArthurs references to Paul's life pre-Christian or post Conversion match up with Romans 7:14ff. Paul was conscious of how he HAD (past) persecuted the church but even said he'd lived by a good conscience. The only solution is it's NOT Paul. And the only ppl mentioned in Romans prior are Adam, Abraham and Adam is best candidate cuz he SINNED and died and he represents all humanity. Just because Christians can relate to the passage DOESN'T mean it's them. That's call isegesis not ex exegesis. I think the vast majority of modern exegetes don't see this as Paul. It's not opinion..
Perhaps when a Christian seeks to live under law they experience this. But that's not Paul's point.
Galatians 5:17 talks about a conflict for the Christian but notice it's not between ones new nature (spirit) and flesh..But between the Holy Spirit and the flesh..completely different
MacArthur more preached from 1 Peter here than .Romans 7

  4. Everyone, ask god to show you how irresponsible Paul washer is! Check with god before you believe anything he preaches! Do not be seriously ignorant! Ask god to show you if he is in the occult, if he has a religious spirit, and ask god to show you the sins he is committing and people he is cursing! Ask god for the same thing with John MacArthur! Ask God to show you if that is true! They both have a religious spirit

  5. Jon hasn't even figured out that Greek is an aspectually based language and that the verb doesn't articulate temporality. He needs to trade in some of his dusty old seminary books for some grammars written in the last 40 years.

  6. Such wickedness to twist what Paul is saying and use it to make people feel better about the fact that they are still slaves to sin!

Read ALL of chapter 7 and 8! Paul is not saying he still struggles with sin! He's painting a picture of what it was like to be a slave to sin!

For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

You think Paul thought he was still slewn by sin!!?? No way!

For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

You think Paul thought he was still SOLD under sin!! Of course not! He was bought by the blood of Messiah! If any man is still SOLD under sin, he is not God's!

O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

You think Paul is saying he still isn't DELIVERED by the finishing work of the cross!!?? Of course not! This is heresy!

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Messiah Yeshua, who walk NOT after the FLESH, but after the SPIRIT.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Messiah Yeshua hath made me FREE from the law of sin and death.
So then they that are in the FLESH CANNOT PLEASE GOD!!

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.
They say still unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and they say unto every one that walketh after the imagination of his own heart, No evil shall come upon you.

  7. 1Peter @-19
"For as you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things
like silver and gold…but with the precious blood of Christ…"
If you have not as yet been saved by Jesus, consider some of the benefits: Jesus' shed blood…
    1)Precious in value. Acts @
2)In rarity. Only Jesus' blood was sinless
3)Because it saves. Nothing else does.
4)Under the blood there is no condemnation!
    5)It removes your sins completely.
    6)It cleanses. Rev. 1:5
7)It replaces sin with His righteousness.
    8) Your sins are in remission, as if you never committed them. Matt @,
    9) Release of payment. Your sin debt is paid in full! Ephesians 1:7, Colossians @

If anybody desires to further look into this matter, the bible teaching
site, teachingfaith com has a fine beginners series on salvation
titled, 'change of mind'..30 free streaming videos…it really helped me
understand all the ins and outs of salvation in Jesus only.

  8. If you hate your sin, it's a great reminder that you are God's child because God hates sin and He lives in the born again believer. This was a wonderful message that all God's people need to hear regularly. Read your Bibles and pray for strength. Resist the devil and he will flee. We're all in this together until our Lord Jesus Christ takes us home. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Amen.

  9. Mcarthur is a false teacher. You struggle with sin because you never crucified your flesh in repentance proven by deeds. Your still a slave to sin. Romans 7 is a condemned man, a slave to sin. Repentance proven by deeds is the solution . Your being lied to by these false teachers. Stop listening to them. Romans 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. (WHEN… PAST TENSE), 14For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin…. if your sold under sin your NOT SAVED OR IN CHRIST… Mcarthur is damning your soul, just like he is damned.

  10. The gospel is God’s rescue from sin, character restoration, and relationship
reconciliation program for humans who suffer desperation caused by guilt,
depravity and fear of their inevitable death. His pardoning and powerful
rehabilitating grace redeems the diligent participant from condemnation of sin
and decriminalizes them so they are fit to be resurrected from death, pass
God’s parole hearing, and to enter into eternal life with sinless beings.
GOSPEL —  It is in JN 3:16,ACTS 20:24,Rom 1:16 ,1 Cor 15:3 & 4,  AND  2 Cor 5:21 It is the good news of powerful GRACE which  addresses GUILT & DEPRAVITY. Not just guilt taken care of  by a sacrificial death of JESUS. Until one knows what GRACE & SALVATION (character healing) really mean they will not understand the meaning of the GOSPEL. GRACE is the GOD given mercy & divine influence on the heart & mind, that engenders the desire & power to do GOD's will. It results in transformation & regeneration of an individual from the ROM 8:7 (God hating ,LAW trashing) mindset to the ROM 8:4 (Spirit led, LAW fulfilling) state.

  11. We all as born again believers in Christ will feel the struggle between our sinful nature and our new nature in Christ. Before, when we were dead in our sins, we followed our sinful nature, there was no struggle. Thanks and praise to Christ who will ultimately save us from this corrupt body we live in and will one day in his glory be clothed in a righteous holy body that Christ will give us.

  12. Can I just say mister doctor Macarthur, that hair of yours looks good. In fact, it looks gooder each time I see it. Darn tootin it does verily almost make me do gigantuan swoon when I see it, yes sir

  13. Toughest for me is guarding my mind when my eyes cross the path of a very beautiful women… the image of her can come back into my mind 6 hours later… 12 hours later… and then war explodes within me… 2 opposing desires… one to not sin in THOUGHTS… and LUST… I win often… I lose often… this is the most annoying fight for me… I have put to silence pornography for good ever since I was saved… 18 months… (thank you Lord, this is your work on me)… but the fight goes on… with the eyes…

  14. We are not wrestling against flesh and blood, whilst we in the flesh we’ll always stumble, we All sinners in one why or the other, it is impossible to live a sinless life in this body, we strive constantly Romans 7:24 Paul, o ratchet men that I am who shall deliver me from this body…. we all sin, we will struggle till we’ll be changed, God bless each and everyone in the body of Christ

  15. Sin lives with us. I wish to be done away with it completely. It's so tiring and cumbersome, even aggravating. Its whispers constant, and its grin demeaning. Its gaze ever vigilant, pacing around you, suffocating…

    Come Lord Yeshua!

  16. john, ive been under your teaching for many years and I've learned the truth because I've seen it played out in my own life, so love you brother for teaching the truth. your brother john bowden

  18. I needed this message. Everyday I battle with purity issues. I know God is able to deliver me and its been such a struggle. I win some but lose others. I have filters in place and accountability in place but my mind keeps wandering even after spending time with the LORD. Pray that the LORD helps me everyday to win the battle.
